Hluhluwe Town

Hluhluwe is a visitor-friendly and convenient town. It is situated ideally for exploring the nearby game reserves, as well as the northern resorts of Lake St Lucia and the Maputaland coastline.

The small town offers an information centre, convenient stores, fuel stations, doctors' surgery, church, police station and post office.

Agriculture

Hluhluwe produces 90% of South Africa's queen pineapples. Other agricultural crops include sugar cane, sisal, cotton, tomatoes and chillies.

There is a wide variety of flora, with well over 2000 plant species, many of which are endemic to the region. The vegetation is extremely diverse on a radius of 70km. From dense forests, palm savannahs, mountainous sand dunes and broad flood plains to extensive papyrus swamps.

Non-conservations areas surrounding the town are still home to wild animals like hippo, crocodiles and antelope, warthog and leopard. A phenomenal number of bird species abound.
Guest could enjoy a scenic drive to the Jozini dam which is the 3rd largest dam in South Africa.

The People

Inhabited since the 1650's by a mixture of Thonga, Swazi, and Zulu people the area are rich with rural culture.
